Katherine Altobello , Austin, TX, was the guest mezzo-soprano for High Holy Day services at Congregation Beth Israel, under the direction of Jeffery Jones-Ragona and Maimy Fong. She is also a part-time instructor of applied music at Southwestern University. Hilary Brown Tyson , Houston, TX, of the law firm BoyarMiller, in Houston, was elected to member- ship in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. Fellows of the foundation are selected for their outstanding professional achievements and their demonstrated commitment to the improvement of the justice system throughout the state of Texas. Her election is a mark of distinction and recogni- tion of Tyson’s contributions to the legal profession. Selection as a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation is restricted to members of the State Bar of Texas. Each year, the top one-third of 1% of Texas attorneys are invited to become fellows. Morgan Stewart-Kim earned her doctorate in science education from Texas Christian University on May 12, 2018, after successfully defending her disser- tation, “Investigating Scientific Curiosity in Young Learners: A Multiple Case Study of a Five-Year-Old, a Six-Year-Old, and a Seven-Year-Old.” BIRTH: Sarah McCracken Trub and Richard Trub, Henrico, VA, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter Kaelyn Charlotte on August 14, 2019. Michael Broz , St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, is currently attending the philos- ophy doctoral program at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Austin Painchaud , Georgetown, TX, started a new job as development director at Spirit Reins. Jace Venters , Seattle, WA, coauthored a recently published article on using computer simulations to teach chemical kinetics in the journal Trends in Chemistry with Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Maha Zewail-Foote. Kathy Douglas , San Antonio, TX, graduated with a master of science in data analytics from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May 2019. Mei Earling , Denton, TX, published an article in the September 2019 issue of the journal Plant Foods for Human Nutrition with Triston Beadle ’18 and Professor of Chemistry Emily Niemeyer. The article, titled “Açai Berry ( Euterpe oleracea ) Dietary Supplements: Variations in Anthocyanin and Flavonoid Concentrations, Phenolic Contents, and Antioxidant Properties,” was based on Earling and Beadle’s chemistry capstone projects. The research was completed with support from the Robert A. Welch Foundation and Southwestern’s Dishman endowment and Faculty–Student Projects fund. Kathryn Reagan , Dallas, TX, was named as the November spotlight member of the global organization Women Who Code. Kaitlyn Campbell , Vermillion, SD, recently passed her Ph.D. qualifying exam and is now a doctoral candidate.
