Carol Cody Herder Carol Herder is a retired banking professional, having served as a vice president at Allied Bank of Texas. Prior to joining Allied Bank, Herder was executive vice president of several tax-oriented subsidiaries at Texas Commerce Bank. Herder’s great-grandfather, Claude Carr Cody, was a professor of mathematics at Southwestern for 37 years and served as the University’s first academic dean and as acting president on two separate occasions. Another great-grandfather, Melville Beveridge Lockett, served on Southwestern’s Board of Trustees for 27 years, chairing the board’s executive committee for 12 of those years. Herder earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with honors and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972 and 1974, respectively. Prior to her election as a trustee, Herder served as a member of Southwestern’s Board of Visitors. Craig J. McKinney ’91 Craig McKinney is coordinator of professional learning (Title II) for the Plano Independent School District (PISD). He is also an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) staff developer and curriculum writer. McKinney began his teaching career at Shepton High School in Plano, where he taught English, the humanities, and the AVID elective. In 1997, he was named PISD Secondary Teacher of the Year and was a finalist for Texas Teacher of the Year. McKinney graduated magna cum laude in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in English and sociology from Southwestern, where he was elected to Alpha Chi and was a member of Student Foundation and the choir. He earned a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of North Texas in 1997. McKinney currently is president-elect of the Southwestern University Alumni Association. Cassandra M. McZeal ’92 Cassandra McZeal is the compu- tational sciences function manager for ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company. Since joining ExxonMobil in 2000, McZeal has worked on software for oil and gas investment portfolio planning and management, led the visualization and workflow integration team, worked as a skill-area advisor for computational and applied mathematics, and been the architect for the compu- tational methods division. McZeal has served as an assistant adjunct professor at Rice University and currently serves on Rice’s School of Engineering Advisory Board. McZeal graduated magna cum laude in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Southwestern, where she was elected to Alpha Chi. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in computational and applied mathematics from Rice in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Prior to her election as a trustee, McZeal was a member of Southwestern’s Board of Visitors. Claire Peel ’72 Claire Peel is the executive director for accreditation and assessment for physical therapy at the University of St. Augustine. Peel previously served as the senior vice provost for academic and faculty affairs at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, where she also was a professor in the school’s department of physical therapy. Peel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1972 from Southwestern, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, Cardinal Key, the President’s Advisory Committee, the Union Leadership Committee, and the Union Governing Board. She received a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Southern California in 1979 and a doctoral degree in exercise science and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation from the University of Iowa in 1984.
